Breakfast with the animals

No visit to the Halls in Oz is complete without a visit to Featherdale. It isn't the fanciest zoo, but you will see all the uniquely Australian birds and animals... sometimes a little more of them than you'd hoped (look, mom, that kangaroo is pooing). Zach was completely stressed out by walking around in the petting zoo style atmosphere. Animals roam freely, and therefore, poo is everywhere. But, other than Zach's constant need to get his shoes/hands clean and avoid the aweful smells, Featherdale offered us a lot of excitement. Here--I'll prove it!

We arrived just in time for the echidna feeding (ants & termites), followed by a chunk of raw meat for the grumpy old crocodile, wagons full of apples and oranges for the birds, bats & wombats and of course, hay in a ice cream cone for the boomers (kangaroos).

We paused for a moment of silence at this Coke sponsered photo op (miss you, Heather.)
Zach humored us for this photo by pretending he couldn't reach the koala. Really, he just has no desire to stand this close, smell, or touch animals.
Harriet looks like she's going to tap mr. koala on the bum. Pardon me, but could you turn this way? It would really help my photo. Thanks! (There are lots of these pics , only better, on P & H's cameras...)
Wombats. I've never seen them come out of their tunnels (they're nocturnal). They were pretty cute. In a furry pig kind of way. Last stop was the reptiles. I didn't take any photos, as they are in a dark room, behind glass. Just the way I prefer to see snakes. Especially the world's most venimous varieties...
After a stop at the hand washing station, we left the park to eat our picnic lunch, and then drive a little further for some hiking in the Blue Mtns. Stay tuned!

Wow, great outing! My highlights:

1. Taylor nose-touching the 'roo

2. Anything with Zach in it!

3. Harriet in her "Koalas" sweatshirt
next to a REAL Koala!

4. All the kids posing with the giant
rat, er, I mean 'roo!

Thanks Carrie!
