The Bush

You may have heard references to "the bush" or "the outback". Well, Australia's center is really dry and hot, and it's called the outback. Where we live, we are in "the bush". It's lush and rainforest-like. There are zillions of birds and bugs and spiders and lizards and snakes. All the suburbs around Sydney have areas of bush. One minute you're surrounded by highrise buildings, the next minute there is nothing but trees.

The Medina is almost surrounded by bush. In the morning and evening, it is the most amazing swarm of rainbow lorikeets, kookaburras and huge white parrots, amoungst other birds. They screech so loud you cannot hold a conversation with the person next to you. Lately, the kids & I like to go watch this. If only they had someone else for a mom, maybe they'd be able to go exploring in the bush. But truthfully, they're as wimpy as I am about wild animals. Today Zach was so startled by a lizard that he tripped and fell.

This ravine is so much deeper and more vast than it looks here. Trust me.
The sign reads "Bush regeneration area. Please keep off."

I really prefer to admire this type of nature from a distance...
